Holiday Stressors – are you sure?

It seems to happen every year, but less than 4 weeks to Christmas? Is time getting away from you too?
Just because you can…

Who can believe that the Christmas break is coming so quickly?
You’re probably looking forward to the break. But before the break, there are a few weeks to get through…
Have you chalked up a lifestyle disease yet?

After weeks of noticing articles about ‘health’ in my inbox each morning from the daily news, today I found an article that was actually worth my time to read. It wasn’t anything that I didn’t know, but it is useful to see that it’s in print and available – “Why it’s becoming nearly impossible to be healthy in Australia” by Dr Sandro Demaio.
Rigid, flexible or Rigidly Flexible?

You may have read my article 2 weeks ago called ‘Just STOP!’ and how the diet and exercise industries have us turning ourselves inside out trying to find what’s best for us, as individuals, by trying ‘the next best thing’.
In vs Out – There is no ONE way for all bodies

We’re already more than halfway through October 2022. Every year it feels like time slips away faster and faster!
It’s about this time that we start (if not already well underway) planning for Christmas here in Australia – oh, and the parties. Every year there seem to be more end of year party obligations. Or is it just me?
Just Stop! Okay?

It’s so Confusing!!
HIIT, aerobics, weights, run, cycle, swim…
Train in the morning. Train in the afternoon…
Get up earlier, work harder, work smarter not harder…
Health promotion and prevention is such a better investment

It struck me how closely aligned I am to the authors of this article where I believe that spending money on health promotion and prevention is such a better investment than paying for treatment and potential cures.
McKinsey Health Institute “proposes disproportionately investing in disease prevention and health promotion in addition to treatment to help people truly thrive. Promotion is defined here as actions that help individuals achieve and sustain the best possible physical, mental, social, and spiritual health given their intrinsic biological capacity.”
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity

If I were to ask you the question – “How’s your health?”
What would you think I meant?
Most people I speak to immediately go to equate my question with wellness – physical and mental health wellness – not the encompassing well-being. Very few ever mention or even consider their social well-being. “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” World Health Organization, 1948.
Boundaries are Scary!!!

That was a response that I had from several people (concerningly women) to some questions I posed recently, and it surprised me. I thought I would get responses to the effect that boundaries are hard and difficult but necessary and other words to that effect.
What makes boundaries hard, particularly for women in this case? Just to be transparent, the rest of this article will predominantly focus on women as I didn’t have enough responses from men to generalise. Some women expressed that trying to have and assert boundaries, brought so much conflict and confrontation with the activity that it wasn’t worth it to them. Others find safety in boundaries.
Boundaries can be difficult to put in place and practice…???

Following on from my last article, “no matter what the current opinion of the individual, finding what’s right for you in terms of boundaries can be a challenging activity or series of activities. It always starts with your values – the things that are super-important to you – be it health, hard work, integrity, family, or any number of other values. From there though, it’s breaking down what you will accept and what you won’t accept in terms of behaviours.”
